San Francisco Street Monuments

The street monuments project is an ongoing effort to document artifacts of past infrastructure on the city streets. Things like old water covers, Fire Department call boxes, sewer vents, and the like. These objects are mostly unnoticed by the general public, and I'll admit, a bit boring, but I believe they can tell something about the growth of the city. I devised a method to easily document them with mobile phone pictures, using embedded metadata to place them on a map. I've always been curious about these objects, but I didn't want to work to hard to document them. If you think you'd like to help with this effort, send me a message. - David
